Calculus Tutors
Our calculus tutors help students learn derivatives, integrals, Newton’s Method, and more. We help with pre-calculus and AP calculus. Each session your student receives will be personalized and face-to-face in the Portland area. We can help your child prepare for tests, complete their homework, and feel more confident about their ability to succeed in (and even enjoy) mathematics.
All of our calculus tutors are either currently enrolled in advanced college level mathematics courses, such as Calculus III or Differential Equations, or they have a degree in either mathematics, mechanical engineering, or a masters in math.
After looking for advanced mathematics courses and degrees such as pre-medicine, chemical or mechanical engineering, what we look for next is human engineering. Do our prospective calculus tutors understand human psychology? We know from experience that equally as important as understanding math, is being able to teach it. That’s why we look for someone’s ability to use simple metaphors to explain difficult calculus concepts.
Calculus has been around for a very long time. It’s the math of motion, the math of change. Calculus can be very beautiful. But it can also be frustrating. We know and understand that all math can be hard. Our founder, Eric Earle, used to stubbornly refuse his math homework in elementary and middle school. He struggled with pre-calculus at Cleveland High School. While in college, he decided to help make learning math and science easier for Portland students of all ages. After being a tutor for several years, and seeing the tangible changes he made in people’s lives, he founded Mentor Portland LLC (Tutor Portland). His mission is to make it possible for every student to learn (and even enjoy) math and science.
